Four seasons in Hong Kong sets world record

Four Seasons hotel sets world record in new Michelin Hong Kong guide

The Four Seasons hotel in Hong Kong has become the only hotel in the world to house two three-Michelin-starred restaurants after its French eaterie Caprice was handed the top accolade in the latest guide to Hong Kong and Macau.

After the hotel’s Cantonese restaurant Lung King Heen debuted with three Michelin-stars in last year’s guide to the Chinese cities, its sister restaurant Caprice joined it in the top ranking this year.

Caprice is overseen by executive chef Vincent Thierry, whose contemporary menu is focused on French ingredients including Hong Kong's biggest selection of artisan French cheeses.

In total, Michelin has awarded 26 restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau with new stars including five restaurants with two stars. They are: Petrus (Shagri-La Hotel); Fook Lam Moon (Wan Chai); Ming Court; and Tim’s Kitchen in Hong Kong; as well as Zi Yat Heen in Macau.

Twenty restaurants celebrated their first Michelin star, including 16 in Hong Kong and four in Macau.

The second Michelin guide to Hong Kong and Macau will be published in English and Chinese and is released today in China and will be on sale from early February in Europe.

Michelin now publishes 24 guides covering 23 countries in Europe, the USA and Asia.

Earlier this month, Tokyo retained its crown as the world’s most Michelin-starred city, with more starred establishments than Paris, London and New York combined.

The Japanese capital eclipsed Paris as the city with the most three-starred restaurants.
